Job Summary:
The Content Operations Architect is responsible for designing and implementing content workflows, systems, and technologies that streamline the creation, management, and distribution of digital content across various platforms. This role will ensure that content operations are efficient, scalable, and aligned with business goals, improving the overall content lifecycle from creation to delivery. The Content Operations Architect will work closely with content creators, IT teams, and stakeholders to optimize systems, automate processes, and ensure a seamless content experience for internal teams and end-users.
You should have deep experience with content management systems (CMS), digital asset management (DAM), content workflows, automation, and familiarity with cloud-based content delivery solutions.
You should possess strong technical expertise in cloud platforms (such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure), a deep understanding of content workflows, and experience in integrating cloud infrastructure with content management systems.
You will also require deep knowledge of the media supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Content Workflow Design & Optimization:
- Analyse existing content creation, management, and distribution workflows to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
- Architect end-to-end content workflows that streamline content production, approval, publishing, and distribution processes.
- Ensure workflows are optimized for scalability and flexibility, accommodating diverse types of content (e.g., text, images, video, audio, etc.).
2. Systems Integration & Management:
- Lead the integration of Content Management Systems (CMS), Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems, and other content-related platforms.
- Ensure seamless interaction between various systems (e.g., CMS, DAM, and CRM) to enable smooth content creation, storage, and publishing workflows.
- Collaborate with IT and development teams to configure and maintain content-related infrastructure, ensuring that systems are properly integrated and optimized.
3. Automation & Process Improvement:
- Implement automation tools and scripts to streamline content operations, such as metadata tagging, content categorization, version control, and publishing.
- Develop solutions to automate repetitive tasks, such as content migration, content approval workflows, and reporting.
- Continuously monitor and improve content-related processes using data-driven insights and best practices.
4. Content Governance & Compliance:
- Define and maintain content governance frameworks, ensuring content consistency, quality, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Implement systems and processes to ensure content complies with legal, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, copyright laws).
- Maintain version control and audit trails for all content-related activities.
5. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as the bridge between content creators, marketing, product, and IT teams to understand content requirements and translate them into effective operational solutions.
- Provide thought leadership and strategic guidance on content operations to key stakeholders across the organization.
- Work with external vendors and partners to implement content-related tools and platforms, ensuring they align with the organization's operational goals.
6. Content Delivery & Performance Optimization:
- Ensure content is distributed efficiently across multiple platforms, channels, and devices, ensuring optimal performance and user experience.
- Work with content delivery networks (CDNs), caching systems, and media asset management tools to optimize content delivery performance.
- Monitor and resolve performance issues related to content publishing and delivery, ensuring rapid resolution of content-related issues.
7. Documentation & Training:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for content workflows, systems, and operational procedures.
- Provide training and support to content creators and other stakeholders on best practices for using content platforms and tools.
- Ensure that new team members are onboarded effectively with regard to content systems and workflows.
8. Content Analytics & Reporting:
- Implement tools and processes to track content performance and operational metrics (e.g., content production times, content engagement, publishing efficiency).
- Regularly review and report on content operations KPIs, providing insights to improve content strategies and optimize workflows.
- Use analytics tools to measure the success of content distribution and recommend improvements based on data.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
- Educational Background: Ideally a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Content Management, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in content operations, content architecture, or content management system (CMS) administration.
- CMS Expertise: Strong experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Drupal, Adobe Experience Manager, or Sitecore.
- DAM Systems: Experience working with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems and integrating them with other content systems.
- Automation Tools: Experience with automation tools for content workflows, such as Zapier, Workato, or custom scripting.
- Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud content delivery and storage solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and CDN technologies.
- Process Improvement: Proven track record of identifying inefficiencies in content workflows and implementing process improvements.
- Scripting/Programming: Basic knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Bash to support automation and system integration.
- Content Lifecycle Management: Strong understanding of the end-to-end content lifecycle, from creation to delivery and archival.
Preferred:
- Certifications: Certifications in content management systems, cloud platforms
- Experience in Media/Content Industry: Experience working in industries with a heavy focus on content production and distribution, such as media, entertainment, publishing, or marketing.
- Agile Methodologies: Experience working in Agile or Scrum-based environments.
- Analytics Tools: Experience with content analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics) to measure content performance and operational efficiency.

This is a full-time position based in the UK. As we do not have a UK office, you are able to work from home as appropriate but should be prepared to commute to clients on a regular basis if required.
